Morning Routines of Successful people | What can we learn?

Have you ever wondered what do these personalities have in common? LeBron James, Akshay Kumar, Jack Dorsey, Dwayne Johnson, Satya Nadella. Yes, they are all very successful people in their respective domains. But is there anything that they all do that aids their success? Something that is easy enough for us to include in our lives as well. Something that holds the power to make us all successful. Want to know more about it? Let’s find out in the article.

I love to read biographies and listen to the interviews of some of the most accomplished people – be it in the field of entertainment, sports, or business. Along with fame and money, they also have the access to some of the best consultants, therapists, nutritionists, and coaches we can ever imagine. This means they have the best knowledge and they implement it to their benefit. So, we can learn a lot from their lives. One of the things which they all follow is a very specific morning routine which in their own words has been a major driver of their success.

MEDITATION

The first and most important one is Meditation.

There are plenty of reasons successful people incorporate meditation into their morning routine. This practice helps them control anxiety and stress. It also boosts their self-awareness and the ability to concentrate. It’s no wonder so many leaders have incorporated the art of mindfulness and meditation into their morning routines.

The self-made billionaire, host, actor, author, producer, and philanthropist – Oprah Winfrey does not fail to meditate every morning.

Before his six-mile run, The cofounder and former CEO of Twitter – Jack Dorsey, takes 30 minutes to meditate.

Jeff Weiner, Executive Chairman of Linkedin, Arianna Huffington, Cofounder of Huffington Post and Thrive Global, Katy Perry, Singer and TV Personality – they all start their day with meditation. Various sports stars and athletes also practice the same whether it is Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Kerri Walsh, Olympic triathlon star Simon Whitfield. Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll’s even insisted that all players participate in meditation sessions.

And the list goes on.

EXERCISE

The second important aspect of their morning routines is Exercise.

Regular Exercise is almost a constant in every morning routine that I studied. The form of exercise can vary. This can mean cardio for some, yoga, or weights for others. It can also be a combination of various forms.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the hardest-working and highest-paid actors in Hollywood. He has starred in multiple megahits, is a successful businessman with various brands and shows under his name, and was a former professional wrestler.

He wakes up at 3:30 am and starts off his day with morning cardio, he’ll jog outside or get on the elliptical cross trainer for 30 to 50 minutes after having his coffee. Then he has his breakfast. Following his breakfast, Johnson will get to his gym workout for the day.

He says

“I love putting in that hard work as early as possible to get my day started off on the right foot, mentally and physically,”

“The only thing that’s regimented is I have to wake up before the sun gets up, and I have my two hours alone when no one else is up and the house is quiet,”

I need the mental time in the beginning, and the next thing is my training time. Those are my two anchors, and once I’m able to anchor myself, I’m able to go to work”

One can imagine with the multiple commitments, travel, and public appearances, he is extremely busy. But he would NEVER let this come in the way of his morning routine.

Satya Nadella- the executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft, says

“For me, the daily ritual is just a half-hour of hitting the gym every day,”

“It doesn’t matter where I am, what time zone, how late I got in, I get up and get to the gym. It’s just 30 minutes of running, and it makes a huge difference.”

Former US president, Barack Obama made exercise a part of his presidential schedule when he was in the White House. He used to lift weights and do cardio before he made his way to the Oval Office.

PRACTICE GRATITUDE

Now, the third one is my favorite – Practicing gratitude.

Pausing for a minute and appreciating the things that we already have lifts up our energy. It could be the smallest of things that we have been taking for granted for the longest time Like a place to live, having access to clean food and water, friends and family To support us, etc. Once we are in gratitude, which is the highest form of receivership, We allow abundance to flow into our lives.

Now I will share with you how some of the established people practice gratitude in their daily lives.

Satya Nadella, wakes up every day at 7 am, after getting his usual eight hours of sleep.

The first thing he does is ask himself “What am I thankful for?”. It’s a ritual he picked up from Dr. Michael Gervais, a high-performance psychologist who has coached Microsoft employees and the Seattle Seahawks.

He says:

“It’s just grounding. It gives you the ability to get up in the morning and orient yourself for the day”

Tony Robbins, The author says

“I focus on three moments in my life that I’m grateful for because gratitude is the antidote to the things that mess us up. You can’t be angry and grateful simultaneously. You can’t be fearful and grateful simultaneously.”

Oprah Winfrey says:

“Focusing on one thing that you are grateful for increases the energy of gratitude and rises the joy inside yourself”

As the author of multiple New York Times bestsellers including The 4-Hour Work Week, The 4-Hour Body, and The 4-Hour Chef, and host of 200 million+ downloaded podcasts, Tim Ferris has a lot going on.

He says:

“It’s easy to obsess over pushing the ball forward as a type-A personality, which leads to being constantly future-focused. If anxiety is a focus on the future, practicing appreciation, even for 2 to 3 minutes, is the counter-balancing medicine. Practicing gratitude forces me to think about what I have, as opposed to what I’m pursuing.”

Whether you are running a business, trying to make an impact in your job, or managing your home, these morning routines can help you get started on the right path. Please do experiment with them. This path is a very personal one and you are the best judge as to what works best for you.
